Integrated Algebra I

Syllabus and Course Outline

Mr. Lindner

Course Objective

The objective of Integrated Algebra I is to provide incoming freshman with a strong review of basic math operations (add/subtract/multiply/divide) and fundamental math skills including: multiplication tables, fractions, decimals, and percents. All of these skills will be learned without a calculator, and will occupy the first semester. Once these skills are mastered, the course will move into an Algebra I sequence for the second semester to prepare students for the OGT.

Grading Policy

Tests –                                  40% of grade

Notebook-                          40% of grade

Homework Quizzes -       20% of grade

TextbookMath Course I, publisher McDougal Littell, Copyright 2008

-         supplemental materials will also be used, especially in the second

     half of the year

Class Materials – must have by second week of class

·        1 ½” 3-ring binder

·        dividers

·        LOOSELEAF PAPER –deductions will be made for spiral paper

·        Hole reinforcements (optional but helpful)

Structure of Notebook

  1. Sections of the Notebook

The notebook will be divided into the following sections,in this                        order:

    1. Assignment Page – 3 columns (Date Assigned, Assignment, Date Completed)
    2. Problem of the Day
    3. Notes
    4. Homework
    5. Tests/Quizzes
  1. REQUIRED NOTEBOOK MATERIALS

·        1 ½” 3-ring binder

·        dividers

·        LOOSELEAF PAPER –deductions will be made for spiral paper

·        Hole reinforcements (optional but helpful)

  1. Notebook Requirements
    1. Everything must be dated – assignments, problems of the day, notes, homework, and tests and quizzes. Dates for problems of the day and notes are to be in the LEFT MARGIN AREA.
    2. Everything must bein order by date, front to back. That means your most recent work should always bein the back of that section.
    3. In your problem of the day and notes section,do not start a new page each day. Instead, start where you left off the day before, even if it is on the back of the page. You are expected to use the front and back of your paper. This prevents your notebook from getting full and cluttered.
    4. Every homework assignment should be dated and have the assignment written at the top of the page. The date must be clearly visible.
    5. All tests are to be corrected on a separate sheet of paper, labeled “Test Corrections” at the top of the page.  The page goes immediately after the test in the test section. You are to correctly rework any problem you missed any points on, including steps.
    6. Pages cannot be falling out, use the hole reinforcements to help with this. The notebook must beneat and organized. You will be graded on the neatness and organization of the notebook.
    7. All steps and work must be shown. Points will be deducted if assignments and problem of the days only have an answer with no steps.
    8. Work hard to make this notebook look good – it is 40% OF YOUR GRADE!!
