Tonya Kennedy - VCHS Graduate 1990
Career: Nurse/MDS Coordinator, BS Healthcare Administration
My Mission Possible: I never wanted to be a nurse; I was not that person that knew right away what I wanted to be when I grew up. After high school, I attended Ohio University and failed my first year. I picked myself up and decided that was not how I wanted my life to go and attended Buckeye Hills Practical Nursing Program. I graduated and immediately figured out I really loved being a nurse! Helping people in their darkest hour is a great feeling. I decided I wanted to be part of the system that actually made policies that helped people get better care so I went back to school at age 42 to get a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration. I am currently attending Rio Grande to get my Associates Degree in Nursing, and who knows where I will go from there!
My words of advice: Don’t ever think you can’t. Don’t ever let someone tell you that you can’t. You are never too old to make a change, and learning is a lifelong process.
