What is YCAT?

We are the Youth Climate Action Team at VCHS!

The YCAT members are working to create projects that will improve the recycling initiative that is already in place at Vinton County Schools. Our goal is to help reduce the waste produced at the schools with recycling through demonstrations, education, and through understanding the impact recycling can have on our environment. YCAT plans to help the elementary schools and middle school introduce recycling initiatives as well. The urgent matter of climate change and the impact our waste makes on the environment motivates us to work hard to better our world for future generations. If you can offer any advice or support, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for respecting our projects and for helping the YCAT kick start our zero waste journey.

YCAT visits VCMS

The Vinton County High School YCAT (Youth Climate Action Team), met with 8th grade students on March 29th to share what they've learned about climate change, waste reduction, and renewable energy.  Students gained insights about how changes in how we treat our environment is affecting the human, animal, and plant life throughout the world. Click on the following link to go to the YCAT page of our school website and learn more about their efforts and see pictures of their visit to the Vinton County Middle School.  YCAT Page

What is YCAT?

Students represented Vinton County High School as part of a Youth Climate Action Team.  They participated in a 2-day leadership training at Camp Oty'Okwa in November. The VCHS team is one of several who are participating in the leadership training and climate action initiative.  They are getting the chance to learn from climate experts and to take a first hand look at evidence about climate change in our local environment.
