A message from the Principal...

Kim Arthur, Principal

Dear Students, Staff and Parents:

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! Our commitment at Central Elementary School is to provide a safe, encouraging, and intellectually challenging environment that will empower students to become innovative thinkers, creative problem solvers and inspired learners prepared to thrive in the twenty-first century.

At Central, we are committed to providing our students with positive learning experiences through a challenging academic program that will prepare students for an ever-changing world.  We inspire and motivate students to achieve their fullest potential in order to be successful today and be prepared for tomorrow.

We believe that working together and maintaining open lines of communication help make the home-school connection a successful part of our students' education.  We encourage family and community participation in classroom and school-wide programs and activities along with our PTC sponsored activities.

At Central Elementary School we aspire to prepare and motivate our students by instilling in them critical thinking skills, a global perspective, and a respect for core values of honesty, loyalty, perseverance, and compassion. Students will have success for today and be prepared for tomorrow.

Central Elementary School’s staff, parents, and community are dedicated to the intellectual, personal, social, and physical growth of our students. Our highly qualified staff recognizes the value of professional development in order to rigorously challenge students. Our teaching practices are both reflective and responsive to the needs of our students. Through diversified experiences, our students discover their potential, achieve readiness for college and careers, and succeed in a safe and caring environment.

We believe that effective teachers:

  • Create opportunities for intellectual risk-taking, collaboration, problem-solving, and application of classroom learning to real life situations;
  • Implement strategies that promote ownership of learning to students;
  • Design instruction to integrate a variety of innovative technological tools and resources to enhance learning;
  • Demonstrate ongoing professional growth in order to increase the quality of instruction;
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share and discuss exemplary practices, interpret student performance data, and design assessments that promote twenty-first century skills.

We believe that successful students:

  • Communicate in a meaningful way for a variety of purposes and audiences;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of written, visual, and aural medium through comprehension, interpretation, and evaluation;
  • Employ critical and creative thinking skills to solve problems; and
  • Pose questions, examine possibilities, and apply skills to find solutions to real-world issues.
  • Make positive choices related to physical and mental wellness; and
  • Contribute to the local and global community in a collaborative and respectful manner

In conclusion, I wish you all a wonderful school year. If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me and know that my door is always open. I can be reached at kim.arthur@vc-k12.us. I am honored to serve as your principal at Central Elementary School!
