Project Backpack 2017/2018

The mission of Vinton County Project Backpack is to provide food to sustain our neediest students through the weekends, when no school meals are available and food at home is likely to be in shorter supply. This helps families who might have difficulty stretching the food budget out to the end of each month.

Project Backpack provided 3008 bags of food, along with clothing, toiletries and necessisites for students during the 2017/2018 school year.  A total of 376 backpacks were sent home with high school, middle school, and elementary students each month. A total of 188 backpacks were send home during the month of December, as well as, 22 high school students being adopted for Christmas ($100-$125 spent on each student).

This was all made possible by the following generous donors: General Mills, Hopewell Health Center, Lost and Found Worship Center, Knox Trucking, Club Vinton, Jerry's Do It Center, Jackson/Vinton Farm Bureau, United Methodist Women, Adelman & Clark, Ohio MATS LLC, Montgomery Trucking, Marilyn Braden, FOE # 2279, Mason's Autobody, Toro Loco, Care United Methodist Outreach, AMVETS Post #84, Ohio Valley Bank, Ross County Banking Center, R & C Quickstop, VCHS Teachers, and Vinton County National Bank.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest is caused by an abnormality in the heart's electrical system or structure that abruptly stops the heartbeat. It is the leading cause of death on school campuses. According to the American Heart Association, every 3 days a young athlete dies from Sudden Cardiac Arrest in the US. In 80% of the cases, there are no warning signs or symptoms leading up to a cardiac arrest.

Cappo Health will perform EKGs and echocardiograms to detect heart conditions that can put your child at risk and vascular ultrasounds to identify vascular conditions common to athletes (such as blood clots). All tests are non-invasive, and the privacy of your child is maintained.

To learn more and register for the testing, please visit: http://go.dxtesting.com/fmi/webd/Vinton%20County%20High%20School
Once have chosen your appointment time, please visit: www.cappohealth.com and click on "HS Registration" at the top of the page to complete your registration paperwork.
