The Viking Success Coffeehouse, featuring VC Alumni, took place on December 18, 2017. Recent VC grads who are attending either college or a military academy returned to share their experiences with current seniors who are about considering similar paths. Grads told many stories about their challenges and accomplishments; about adjusting to different people and environments; about overcoming doubt and preconceived notions. Common themes were the importance of reaching out and getting to know new people, getting involved in campus activities, and managing time and responsibilities. They stressed that the more immersed and invested one becomes in the college experience, the more gratifying the journey will be.After the panel discussion, the VC Alums mingled with our seniors to answer individual questions, and, of course, to enjoy hot chocolate, coffee, and miscellaneous delicious coffeehouse items. Vinton County High School's Project Backpack would like to thank the Vinton County National Bank for a gracious $700 donation. The backpack program provides services to our entire district. Project Backpack serves backpacks twice a month to distribute food and items students need to get them through days they aren't at school to benefit from a free breakfast and lunch. These items are given to high school students in need and also taken to the elementary schools and middle school. Students pictured are some of the many helpers to stock, sort, pack and delivery our backpacks. Included in the picture is Tracey Kirby from the Vinton County National Bank handing the check to Will Arthur. Project Backpack is totally funded by donations. If you would like to make a donation, please contact coordinator, Amy Ward at email@example.com.
