As part of an entrepreneurial service project, Vinton County South Elementary first grade students are currently conducting a project called "First Grade Giving Feet." Their students and teachers noticed a great need for shoes. They decided to start collecting new and like new shoes. On April 20th, they are hosting a walk-a-thon to raise funds to purchase new shoes. First graders are in the process of collecting monetary donations from sponsors to make those purchases.
In addition to providing South Elementary with shoes, they decided to support The Shepherd's House by donating a portion of the women's shoes they collect. SOAR and Vinton Industries are also participating in their event.
Several local businesses expressed interest in becoming a shoe drop location. They are collecting shoes ranging in sizes preschool (11-13) to adult sizes.
