On Monday, March 26, 2018 Mrs. Matteson’s Social Studies class enjoyed a trip to the Supreme Court of Ohio in Columbus. The artwork in the building was elegant and reflected Ohio’s history. The Supreme Courtroom had many paintings on the walls and ceiling, many trimmed in gold leaf.
Our tour guide was a former judge and was very informative. We especially enjoyed the Visitor Education Center and the case exhibits. We had studied some of the cases before our trip and got to see the verdicts given. Another exhibit we enjoyed was the evidence display where we learned about fingerprinting, DNA and eyewitness reporting. Finally, we enjoyed an elevator ride to the 11th floor to view Bicentennial Park.
Grant funding is available to pay most of the bus costs of a round trip to Columbus through programs at the Supreme Court of Ohio and the Statehouse. Please contact Karen Matteson at 596-5258 ext. 261 for more information. (Article and picture provided by Mrs. Matteson’s Social Studies class.)
