VCHS Graduate 1970
Career: Secretary to Superintendent of Schools
My Mission Possible: From the time I started first grade until I graduated, I did not
like school. However, I knew I needed an education to prepare me for the future so I
began the LPN Nursing Program at Hocking College in the fall of 1970. After only a
few weeks of classes, I was in a car accident and was not able to finish classes that
year. During that year of recuperation, I had time to realize a nursing career was
not for me. In July 1971, I was employed as Secretary to the Superintendent of
Vinton County Local Schools. I would never have dreamed I would be involved with
the school district for 48 years!
My words of advice: Don't be afraid to admit you have made a mistake. Be willing
to ask people you trust and admire for their advice. Be open to new ideas.
