Welcome Back!

Dear Viking Students, Families, Staff, and Community Members,

Welcome back to another exciting school year at Vinton County Local Schools! I hope each of you had a safe, restful, and enjoyable summer filled with time to relax, recharge, and make lasting memories. As we begin a new year together, I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and grateful for the partnership we share in supporting the success of every Viking.

A new school year brings fresh beginnings, new friendships, and countless opportunities for learning and growth. Our dedicated teachers and staff have been working hard to prepare for your return, and we are eager to welcome our students back into classrooms where they will be challenged, encouraged, and inspired every day.

At Vinton County Local Schools, we are committed to providing every student with the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to succeed. This year, one of our district's primary goals is to improve student attendance because we know that students learn best when they are present, engaged, and connected to their school community.

Attendance matters. Every school day provides valuable instruction, meaningful interactions with teachers and classmates, and opportunities that cannot always be replicated outside the classroom. Missing just a few days each month can make it more difficult for students to stay on track academically and socially. Simply put, every day counts.

We understand that illnesses and unexpected circumstances will arise, and students should stay home when they are genuinely sick. However, we encourage all Viking families to make school attendance a priority whenever possible. By establishing consistent morning routines, scheduling appointments outside of school hours when feasible, and communicating with your child's school when challenges arise, together we can help every student succeed.

Improving attendance is a team effort. It requires the commitment of our students, families, educators, and community working together toward a common goal. If your family is experiencing barriers that make regular attendance difficult, please know that we are here to help. Our schools are committed to partnering with families to identify solutions and provide support whenever possible.

As Vikings, we believe in perseverance, responsibility, and supporting one another. Showing up each day is one of the simplest yet most powerful ways our students can demonstrate those values. Together, we can create a culture where every student understands that their presence matters and where every classroom is strengthened because each student is there to learn.

Thank you for your continued trust and support of Vinton County Local Schools. It is an honor to serve this incredible community. I am confident that, by working together and keeping student attendance at the forefront of our efforts, we will make this school year one of growth, achievement, and success for all of our Vikings.
