VC Project Backpack is funded primarily by General Mills Hometown Grant, as well as with the support of local businesses and individuals. These are tentative dates above for distribution.

Dear Community Member:
The mission of Vinton County Project Backpack is to provide food to sustain our neediest students through the weekends, when no school meals are available and food at home is likely to be in shorter supply. We help families who might have difficulty stretching the food budget out to the end of each month. We provide bags of food that can help students through the weekends (currently servicing 3 elementary schools, middle school and the high school).
High school students volunteer to plan menus and pack bags, which are distributed by the advisors and a leadership class called FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America). The program, serves two purposes, in that it provides essential food for needy students and it provides valuable volunteer experience for high school students who take pride in being able to help others.
We would like to ask for your help and support this year as funding is low and have not been awarded a new grant to fund Project Backpack. Our goal is to raise $6500, if you or your business would be so graciously to help sponsor our club this year and server almost 200 students per month that would be greatly appreciated.
